Canadian Punjabi Post is a household name for its readers, the majority of whom are immigrants of Punjabi origin from India. It is respected for its fair and balanced reporting. Canadian institutions (both Government and Non-Government) look up to the Punjabi Post to gauge the public opinion among immigrant communities living in the Greater Toronto Area on many matters of their interest. It goes to its credit that Canadian Punjabi Post also became the first daily newspaper in any language published from Peel Region and the First Daily Punjabi Newspaper to be published anywhere in the world outside of India
Canadian Punjabi Post is looking to hire a dedicated and committed Graphic Designer for its Brampton location.
Position details
Job Title: Graphic Designer (NOC 52120)

Position type: Full-time, Permanent
Number of positions: 1
Compensation: $ 28.50 per hour/35 hours/week
Overtime: $52.5 per hours beyond 44 hours/week
Vacation : 10 paid days
Sick time: 5 paid days and 5 unpaid days
Minimum qualifications for this position must meet the following criteria:
- College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma in Graphic design
- Minimum one year of work experience in a communications environment, Adobe Creative Suits, specifically Illustrator and Photoshop
- Experience working in developing news releases, advertisements, information, fact sheets and reports
- Knowledge of the content management system, updating webpages and creating engagement on social media
- Ability to work independently on tasks and be a collaborative team member
- Knowledge of design principles and typography
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and manage pressure
- Ability to multitask. Willingness to learn and take the initiative.
- Solid interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), organizational, and time management skills
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop and update the layout for Punjabi Post’s print and online versions and make necessary changes as needed.
- Regularly update Punjabi Post headings, footers, and artwork into designs for the online version.
- Create advertisements for clients that will usually include businesses such as ethnic grocery stores, real estate professionals, law offices, immigration, insurance service providers.
- Work with marketing team to determine the size, the artwork, fonts etc. for each advertisement from the business perspective.
- Answers questions and queries from advertisers and make necessary changes to their advertisement designs as requested.
- Design Punjabi Post’s promotional materials including its signages and business cards.
- Maintain and organize digital assets and ensure they are easily accessible to the team.
- Stay updated on the media industry trends and ensure our designs are in line with industry standards.
- Manage design projects from end-to-end including consulting, researching, developing, designing, working with digital vendors, archiving files and managing digital site changes and contest update requests.
- Participate in the marketing teams’ meetings to stay updated on their sales/marketing initiatives.
- Keep a morgue file containing past graphics and photos used in various news stories and advertisements
- Examine existing processes, identifying flaws, and creating solutions that improve design capabilities.
- Responsive design and development of emails, including testing for cross-device compatibility
