Overview
Saint St. Grill in Port Moody, BC is seeking a passionate and skilled Sous Chef to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the Executive Chef and ensuring the smooth operation of our kitchen. This position requires a strong understanding of food preparation, kitchen management, and the ability to supervise kitchen staff effectively. Responsibilities
- Estimate amount and costs of supplies and food items
- Estimate labour costs
- Maintain records of food costs, consumption, sales and inventory
- Analyze operating costs and other data
- Demonstrate new cooking techniques and new equipment to cooking staff
- Supervise activities of specialist chefs, chefs, cooks and other kitchen workers
- Collaborate with the Executive Chef in menu planning and development
- Instruct cooks in preparation, cooking, garnishing and presentation of food
- Prepare and cook complete meals and specialty foods for events such as banquets
- Supervise cooks and other kitchen staff
- Prepare and cook food on a regular basis, or for special guests or functions
- Prepare and cook meals or specialty foods
- Requisition food and kitchen supplies
- Arrange for equipment purchases and repairs
- Consult with clients regarding weddings, banquets and specialty functions
- Plan and direct food preparation and cooking activities of several restaurants
- Plan menus and ensure food meets quality standards
- Prepare dishes for customers with food allergies or intolerances
- Train staff in preparation, cooking and handling of food.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen area.
Skills
- Strong background in kitchen operations and food service.
- Experience supervising staff in a fast-paced restaurant environment.
- Knowledge of food handling practices and safety regulations.
- Proficiency in various cooking techniques and food preparation methods.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong communication skills for effective teamwork within the kitchen.

Requirements:
- At least 3 years to less than 5 years experience in a restaurant setting.
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
- Medical Exam and Criminal Record Check are required
