Responsibilities
Tasks
- Advise clients of their legal rights and all matters related to law
- Perform management functions related to the practice of law
- Plead clients' cases before courts of law, tribunals and boards
- Draw up legal documents and prepare statements of legal opinion
- Supervise professional, para-legal and support staff and articling students
- Research legal precedents and gather evidence
- Analyze immigration and refugee programs and policy
- Execute interviews with clients regarding immigration issues and concerns
- Maintain up to date knowledge of changing immigration laws, regulations, policies and practices and apply this knowledge to varied client and applicant situations
- Set priorities, develop a work schedule, and closely monitor and track cases
- Perform administrative and management functions related to immigration matters including keeping databases up to date and maintain file organization in accordance with office and Law Society procedures and requirements
